The Animation Academy, Loughborough University, UK, in conjunction with HEART (Healing Education Animation Research Therapy), presents a call for papers for the ‘ANIMATION AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM 2015 (APES 15)’
APES15 follows on from last year’s highly successful symposium in association with Bradford Animation Festival, National Media Museum, Bradford UK. This year it will be taking place on Thursday 12th November at the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle, before handing over the baton to the Toy Story at 20 conference (which will open with a special screening of Toy Story at 6pm followed by a keynote paper by Professor Paul Wells).
CALL FOR PAPERS: SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
APES15 invites ground-breaking research on a plethora of areas associated to animation and public engagement, to offer an alternative view of the capabilities of animation and to identify new terrains in the connection of animation and the engaged public.
Papers are invited, therefore, addressing the following topics:
· Animation and Audiences
· Animation Reception
· Animation and Activism
· Animation and Social impact
· Animation and Cultural Practice
· Animation as Cross-Platform communication
· Animation and Health and Well-Being
· Animation as Political Essay
· Animation as, and for, Education
· Animation and Policy
· Animation as Therapy
· Animation and Social Institutions
APES15 welcomes proposals for individual papers, presentations, short film screenings; photographic essays, interactive talks and alternative presentation styles. We would also like to invite scholars and professionals from a variety of fields identifying the cross disciplinary nature of animation.
Paper proposals of 250 words should be submitted to Professor Paul Wells at and Melanie Hani at in Word, PDF or RTF formats, with the following information:

Papers should be forwarded by e-mail with the heading in the subject box: APES15
Paper Duration: No More Than 20 minutes. (Approx 3000 word paper). Film showings to be included within the 20 minutes.
Responses to Papers: No More than 10 minutes.
Deadline for abstracts: Monday September 21st 2015
Selected participants will be notified by Monday September 28th 2015
